Weed, kush, sticky-icky, chronic…

These are all words we are sure you have heard in movies or thrown around on the street. Don’t be confused, though. They all mean one thing. Cannabis.

Suppose you are new to the world of cannabis; first off, welcome. You have stepped into a plane of existence that brings communities together. There are tons to learn about the wonders of cannabis and what it has to offer. At Bad Gramm3r, we are going to give you a rundown, so sit back and enjoy.

What is Cannabis?

Cannabis is a leafy, green herb that is grown, harvested, and enjoyed by millions across the planet. Different cannabis plants grow taller or wider than others and can also be bred to have different effects. The reason why cannabis is so revered is for its psychotropic, restful, and even energized qualities.

There are two main characteristics in the plant that cause this experience, and they are cannabinoids and terpenes. It’s science time!

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds in the cannabis plant that latch onto receptors in the brain to cause a sensation. There are over 100 different cannabinoids that influence the experience. The two most common cannabinoids are THC and CBD, known by their names tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol. THC is what famously gives its consumers “the high.”It’s a mild hallucinogenic effect. It’s what makes music sound better, food taste better, and colors seem more vivid. At least in multiple people’s vantage points. Depending on the strain of cannabis, the THC levels are either higher or lower and can make you feel that exuberant cognitive boost or a “stoned” feeling. The other common cannabinoid is CBD, and CBD has no psychotropic properties, but it does cause mellowness and serves as a ceiling for the intensity of the THC. These cannabinoids blend in what’s called the “entourage effect,” and it’s that effect that gives each strain its character. Both that and terpenes make up the profile of each strain.

Terpenes

Do you know the scent and the taste of cannabis? If not, that is okay. Each strain of cannabis has a unique aroma and flavor profile due to the compounds known as terpenes. If you sense a fruity, citrusy, or piney aroma, those are terpenes.

What are strains, and what types of cannabis are there?

Strains are simply the specific “brand” of cannabis they encompass. They are bred by growers to suit a special purpose and will have different terpene profiles and effects. Strains include OG Kush, Strawberry Banana, Skywalker, etc.

There are three types of cannabis in general that all radiate different experiences. They are sativa, indica, and hybrid.

Sativa is the uplifting type that gives the cognitive head high. Consumers love sativa for its ability to boost creativity, enhance energy, and elevate their state of mind. Strains of sativa include Sour Diesel and Durban Poison.

Indica is known as “in da couch” because it typically causes deep relaxation and the “couchlock” feeling. It is not recommended if you have tasks during the day. Consumers love indica to unwind after a long day, and many report an ease of chronic pain. Indica strains include OG Kush, Skywalker, and Grape Ape.

Hybrids are the best of both worlds. It gives a spectrum of effects from both indica and sativa for a full-bodied experience. They can be balanced, sativa-, or indica-dominant. Hybrid types include Wedding Cake, Pineapple Express, and Trainwreck.

How Do You Consume Cannabis?

One of the wonders of cannabis is how many different ways you can enjoy it. The most popular way to have cannabis is flower, which is the bud found on the plant. Flower is ground and then smoked. Other ways to enjoy cannabis are through edibles, pre-rolls, tinctures, vape pens, and topicals. Edibles are great for eating quickly and for a higher THC experience. Pre-rolls are joints containing ground flower and can be enjoyed on the go. Topicals can be applied to your skin for a soothing sensation and are usually high in CBD.
